Fun Things To Do When Visiting Perth

In Perth, which is located on the west coast of Australia, urban and nature coexist in harmony. Locals can enjoy more sunny days here than in any of the other capital cites in Australia. You can tour the vineyards in Swan Valley, stroll through leafy Kings Park and visit Rottnest Island nearby. For local culture, you can explore the Perth city center’s gallery and museum precinct and explore the winding portside streets in the nearby city of Fremantle.

Explore The Australian Bush From The City

Kings Park is one of the world’s biggest city parks – even bigger than New York City’s Central Park – yet is located in the middle of Perth. It offers epic views of the Canning and Swan rivers along with the skyscrapers dotted along their banks. The entrance road to this green oasis is lined with very tall, white-trunked trees, which features cafes, manicured gardens, bushland trails and a treetop bridge.

Swim At The Beaches Of Perth

Perth’s long coast will take your breath away. Turquoise water meets pale sand here, with the water being so transparent that no matter how deep you go you are still able to see your feet. Visit the charming rock pools at North Beach, Trigg Beach for its big playground and family-friendly grass area, Leighton Beach for its rip-free waters and glittering white sand, the snorkeling reef at Mettams Pool and Cottesloe Beach for its Norfolk pines and cafes. Every March the foreshore at Cottesloe is transformed into an amazing outdoor gallery by the Sculpture by the Sea event.

Snap A Selfie With A Quokka

Located just 19 kilometers (12 miles) outside of Perth, you will be taken back in time at car-free Rottnest Island when life was simple and relaxed. In addition to its history-filled buildings, coral reefs that harbour incredible tropical fish and over 60 beaches, Rottnest is also home to the friendly quokka, who is an Instagram star and marsupial who can only be found in Western Australia. This friendly creature is referred to as “the happiest animal in the world,” and hilariously pulls cutie-pie smiles and cheeky grins for the camera. Since quokkas are so very trusting, when you are posing for a photo with them care does need to be taken. It is a good idea to use a selfie stick, which will allow you to remain a respectful distance away.

Wander Through The Historic Streets Of Fremantle

Fremantle, which is a port town, is a thirty-minute drive south of the centre of Perth. It blends interesting remnants of the colonial world with the renowned Little Creatures Brewery. You can explore the sea-faring history of the area at Shipwreck Galleries and Maritime Museum and go on an eerie tour at Fremantle Prison. At Yocal you can grab a good casual lunch, go to Bread in Common for dinner and stay at The Lodging, which is a boutique guesthouse.

Sample Swan Valley’s West Australian Wine

Swan Valley is the oldest wine region in Western Australia. It has 40 vineyards, with many of the offering tastings of the area’s warm climate wine.

Roam The Streets In Search Of The Small Bars In Perth

In the city centre of Perth, along with the inner city suburb called Northbridge, the small bar movement has exploded, with evidence of its amazing growth coming from the hip street murals sporting many of the outer walls of these bars. Hop from the lively music haunt called The Bird to the moody bar called Ezra Pound.
